Job Title: Driver's Ed Behind - The - Wheel Instructor
Job Summary
The Behind-the-Wheel Driving Instructor is responsible for providing in-car driving instruction to students in accordance with state regulations and approved driver education curriculum. The instructor will teach safe driving techniques, traffic laws, defensive driving skills, and vehicle operation to help students become responsible, confident, and licensed drivers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on driving instruction to students in a dual-control training vehicle.
- Teach students safe driving habits, traffic laws, and defensive driving techniques.
- Evaluate student driving performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all state and local driver education requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, lesson completion, and required documentation.
- Conduct pre- and post-lesson briefings to review objectives and provide performance feedback.
- Ensure the safety of students, pedestrians, and other motorists during instruction.
- Demonstrate proper vehicle operation, including parking, lane changes, highway driving, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of training vehicles and report any maintenance issues.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and administrative staff when applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- State certification or eligibility to become a licensed driving instructor.
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of safe driving experience.
- Ability to pass background checks and driving record review.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in stressful situations.
